He Built an Airbnb Empire. And it tore him apart.
Sean Rakidzich grew Airbnb Automated into one of the most visible education platforms in the short-term-rental industry and founded the revenue-management company Revande. Behind the growth, he says, were workaholism, alcohol, depression, and a life that had become increasingly difficult to control.

He had operated more than 100 short-term-rental properties before Covid-19 hit. All-the-while behind Airbnb Automated, his education brand and YouTube channel, Sean Rakidzich was harboring a secret. He had grown into a major source of Airbnb and rental-arbitrage training and he would later build Revande, a revenue-management company serving short-term-rental operators. But his days were numbered. Decades of workaholism and avoiding the hard truths of work-life balance were taking it's toll..
Rakidzich’s public business materials now report more than 300,000 YouTube subscribers, a portfolio exceeding 100s of listings, operations across multiple cities, millions in revenue and billions in student results. His profile identifies him as the founder of Revande and one of the most recognized educators in the short-term-rental category.
The public story was expansion.
The private story, Rakidzich says, was compulsion.
For years, he had built his identity around production. He worked because the business demanded it, then continued working because he no longer knew how to stop. Alcohol initially provided an off-switch. Eventually, he says, it became another system controlling his life.
When the pandemic disrupted travel, the pressure of managing a large hospitality operation collided with relationship and family problems. Rakidzich describes the period that followed as a depression, one that money, reach, and professional momentum could not solve.
His eventual turnaround did not begin with another business strategy.
It began at the bottom of a bottle.
Sean recalled a night, alone in his high-rise flat overlooking Victory Park in Dallas. Haunted by insomnia and anxiety. In the leery hours of the morning, wide-eyed and gripped with dread, he said to himself. "I don't want to die."
So began his journey to get his life back. He committed to finding time for the gym again, quitting drinking, and changing his eating habits. Peptides came later, as one part of a broader attempt to understand his body, rebuild his health, and recover from years of treating physical wellbeing as secondary to work.
In a written interview for this profile, Rakidzich discussed the difference between public success and private health, the role sobriety played in his transformation, and why he became interested in experimental peptide research.
You had already built a major Airbnb operation by the time COVID hit. What did success feel like from the inside?
Sean Rakidzich: From the outside, success looked like property count, revenue, students, subscribers, and cities.
Inside, it felt like never being allowed to stop.
When you operate more than 100 properties, there is always something happening. A guest issue. A pricing problem. A cleaning problem. A landlord problem. A city changing a rule. A team member who needs an answer.
I became extremely good at solving problems quickly. That is valuable in business, but it can also train you to live as though every part of your life is an emergency.
I knew how to produce. I did not know how to be still.
Was that where alcohol entered the picture?
Rakidzich: Alcohol became the way I shut the business off.
I could work at an extreme level all day, I would start with coffee and then by 5pm I would turn to drinking take the edge and anxiety off. It became a routine. Then it became something I depended on.
Eventually, I had to stop using softer language for it.
I was a workaholic, and I was an alcoholic.
Those two things supported each other. Work gave me a reason to not take care of myself, to externalize gratification with intoxicants, and drinking made it easier to tolerate a life that was almost entirely work.
What changed when COVID-19 hit?
Rakidzich: COVID broke the illusion. We were all locked away in our own little cages. There was no more social drinking. There was no more posturing. Just quiet.
There was no longer a facade to keep up. There was no longer a reward for it.
Was there one moment when you realized something had to change?
Rakidzich: There was not one cinematic moment.
It was the accumulation of mornings when I knew I did not feel right. I knew my health was going in the wrong direction. I knew alcohol was costing me more than it was giving me. I knew I was using work to avoid things I needed to face.
At some point, you either continue defending the life that is hurting you or you become willing to build a different one.
The first real decision was quitting drinking.
That was the foundation. Not a supplement. Not a peptide. Not a shortcut.
Sobriety came first.
What happened after you stopped drinking?
Rakidzich: I had to learn how to live without escaping from my own nervous system.
When you remove alcohol, you do not automatically remove the reasons you were drinking. You still have to deal with the stress, the habits, the emotional problems, the relationships, and the way you built your days.
I started putting health into my operating system.
That meant training consistently. Paying attention to sleep. Looking at what I was eating. Tracking how I felt. Reading research. Getting more interested in biology instead of just business metrics.
For years, I would have reviewed a property’s performance more carefully than I reviewed my own health.
I had to reverse that.
Where did peptides enter the process?
Rakidzich: Peptides entered after I had already made the most important behavioral change.
I did not start researching them because I thought a vial could solve my life. I became interested because I was trying to understand metabolism, body composition, recovery, muscle retention, energy, sleep, and aging.
Business taught me to study systems. Once I turned that same attention toward my health, peptides became one of the areas I wanted to understand.
There are peptides involved in signaling throughout the human body. Then there are synthetic or modified peptides being investigated for very specific biological pathways.
The subject is much more complicated than the social-media version of it.
What are you currently taking?
Rakidzich: My current routine includes what people in the peptide community sometimes call a “GLP-3,” a peptide intended to support endogenous growth-hormone production, and a KLOW blend.
The goal is not just changing the number on a scale. I think about preserving performance, training, body composition, recovery, and how I feel while doing it.
But that is my personal experimentation. I do not believe someone should copy a protocol because they heard it in an interview.
They need to do the research and understand the risks.
Editorial context
“GLP-3” is informal market shorthand rather than the name of a recognized hormone or approved medication class. It is frequently used in peptide marketing to describe a triple-receptor agonist acting at the GIP, GLP-1, and glucagon receptors.
Retatrutide is the best-known investigational compound fitting that description. Clinical research has evaluated it as a GIP, GLP-1, and glucagon receptor agonist, but it remains investigational and is not FDA-approved for public use. FDA currently states that retatrutide cannot legally be used in compounding and has not been found safe and effective for any condition.
Rakidzich’s statement describes his personal experience. It is not a recommendation or evidence that any experimental compound is appropriate for another person.
Are there other peptides that particularly interest you?
Rakidzich: Epitalon is one that fascinates me.
People talk about it in connection with telomeres and aging. The possibility that a small peptide could interact with mechanisms involved in cellular aging is the kind of subject that immediately gets my attention.
I am also interested in MOTS-c. From my personal perspective, energy can become a major issue when you are using a GLP-based approach and eating less. MOTS-c is one of the peptides I became interested in while researching mitochondrial function and energy metabolism.
Again, “interesting” does not mean “proven,” and it does not mean everyone should take it.
What the research currently supports
A 2025 laboratory study found that Epitalon increased telomere length in several treated human cell lines through mechanisms involving telomerase or alternative telomere-lengthening activity. That is meaningful laboratory evidence, but it is not the same as demonstrating that taking Epitalon lengthens a person’s telomeres, reverses aging, or extends human life.
MOTS-c is a mitochondria-derived peptide being studied in exercise, metabolic, and mitochondrial biology. Experimental findings are scientifically interesting, but they do not establish MOTS-c as an approved treatment for fatigue or as a proven companion to GLP-1 medications. Rakidzich’s description of energy is a personal observation rather than a clinical conclusion.

What do you think people misunderstand about peptides?
Rakidzich: People want the molecule to be the story.
The more honest story is that your behavior still matters.
You cannot drink excessively, sleep terribly, ignore food quality, never train, and expect one compound to turn that into health.
For me, the real transformation was that I stopped drinking and stopped treating my body as something I could sacrifice indefinitely.
Peptides were part of the experimentation that came afterward. They were not permission to keep living badly.
That distinction matters because the internet rewards extreme claims. “This one thing changed everything” gets attention. Real life is usually a stack of decisions made consistently.
How did your business background influence the way you approached your health?
Rakidzich: I approach almost everything as an operating system.
In an Airbnb business, revenue is not caused by one thing. It is pricing, visibility, conversion, reviews, photography, availability, operations, and market conditions working together.
Health is similar.
Body composition is not one variable. Energy is not one variable. Recovery is not one variable. You have sleep, food, training, stress, hormones, habits, substances, relationships, and mental health interacting.
My mistake was thinking I could optimize one system while completely neglecting the other.
I built sophisticated systems for companies and almost no sustainable system for myself.
Has your definition of ambition changed?
Rakidzich: I am still ambitious.
I do not think getting healthier means becoming less driven. It means refusing to build success in a way that destroys the person who is supposed to enjoy it.
I want to be capable. I want to train hard. I want to build companies. I want to teach. I want to create at a high level.
But I no longer think exhaustion proves commitment.
And I do not want alcohol to be the price of turning my brain off.
Where do you go for peptide research products?
Rakidzich: For research products, I use Olympus Peptide Labs.

The Less Marketable Version of a Transformation Story
The easiest version of Rakidzich’s story to advertise would be that a successful entrepreneur discovered peptides and was transformed.
That is not the version he tells.
His account begins with a less glamorous intervention: he stopped drinking.
He then changed how he trained, slept, ate, worked, and evaluated his health. Peptide experimentation entered inside that larger process.
That distinction does not make the story weaker. It makes it more credible.
Rakidzich did not become less ambitious. He expanded the definition of what he was building. Revenue, subscribers, properties, and companies still mattered, but they could no longer be the only metrics.
The founder who had spent years teaching people to construct scalable businesses eventually had to apply the same discipline to a more personal project.
He had to build a life he no longer needed alcohol to tolerate.
